Negative spaces can be purposeful, and there is comfort and wisdom in silence, but eventually someone speaks. Job’s friend, Eliphaz, is the first to speak up. He wonders if the reason for Job’s suffering is that he has committed some sin against God, so he decides to help his friend find an answer. Job, meanwhile, is in despair.
